50mi at 17mph

Good day on the bike; getting 50 miles in at a good average speed for this early in the season. A little breezy and a perfect temperature due to the impending downpour. Managed to take a lot of pictures of all the spring flowers and trees in bloom. My courses have turned to pink and yellow in the past couple of weeks and fortunately the pollen doesn’t bother me too much.

This is just the beginning (facing backwards) of a long, hidden treasure in NJ. A road that creeps along a hidden lake/reservoir, waterfall and river.

Hidden Treasure

This is the wide part of the river. It feeds towards the camera to the lake (behind the camera).

River!

Daffodils (I think?) in bloom! These are everywhere along the route, giving you something to look at as you climb.

Flowers

Lazy on the editing (electrical lines), I know, but pretty tree never-the-less.

Tree!

Tree 2!

Overall I am very happy with the camera so far, and very happy with my progression this year on the bike. I have lost some weight (horray!) and my power and endurance are staying pretty level. They are certainly much better than this time last year. Now, back to coding!

New Toy: Olympus Tough 8010

Jealous of Epon’s fantastic photography on-the-go, I took the plunge and bought a new toy for when I am out enjoying the road sweep under my two wheels. The camera boasts a lot of pixels but more importantly does HD (1280×720) video at 30fps while being tough. Supposedly it can take a 2 meter drop and is somewhat waterproof, though I plan to never test either claim. And yes, this means to expect many pictures of my cycling adventures!

Also of note is the Russian President, Dmitry Medvedev, speaking about photography:

Picture of the Day: Blue Jay

Busy feeder today with the family of Blue Jays trying to take over the last of the seed. The Pigeons and Squirrels on the other hand are contempt content to pick up the scraps on the ground.

Eating Healthy

It seems it is getting harder and harder to eat healthy. As humans learn more about what makes up food and as we make more genetically altered food I find that being able to understand how food affects you becomes impossible. There are some people that believe in all organic foods, others in being a vegetarian but there are people that contradict these beliefs. I think the best solution is just to take things in smaller portions, there is no need to eat a gigantic slab of steak in one sitting.

Christmas is Coming!

Horray! I love Christmas, but not for its supposed religious background but rather because of what is has morphed in. Of course I am talking about the food! Actually, although the food is good, it is always nice to see everyone in the family. Anyways, I was doing a few shots of the tree tonight, trying to figure out what settings to use and I snapped this. I thought it looked a bit trippy…

Snow!

We had snow yesterday! But it didn’t stick…

Fall Cycling

I love cycling in the fall.. next time I am probably going to bring my real camera to get some good shots of the area.

Hidden Roads and Fields
Hidden Roads and Fields

Today I went for a nice 16 mile ride just for fun. I almost forgot how much fun and relaxing cycling could be because of the work I have been doing for next year’s racing season. I am also in love with my arm warmers; they feel so amazing. Cycling is also a good time to think. I generally ponder about the current projects I am working on, today about Vodka and Thrust. It is nice how easy problems become when you aren’t forcing yourself to think about them.

As Promised…

As promised, here are more pictures from my vacation.

Back from Vacation!

Finally back from the Adirondacks, more specifically back from a house on Long Lake. Had a great time and got a ton of work done. I am looking forward to posting more pictures as I process them, including some shots of me water skiing! Also going to post my entry to Ziggy’s article contest in a day or two. Right now it is more than 30 pages long with code so watch out!
